Toronto earned a 3-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday (Sept. 29) at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
Starter Jose Berrios earned the win with 5⅔ innings of four-hit ball, five walks and five strikeouts. It was his fifth win of the season.
Berrios, who made his big league debut with Minnesota in 2016, came to Toronto via trade in 2021 and signed a seven-year, $131 million extension 스포츠토토 with the Jays after the season. Last season, he went 12-7 with a 5.23 ERA in 32 games (172 innings), but this season he’s been slightly better, going 5-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 11 games (65⅓ innings). He struggled a bit in April, but has picked up the pace in May, going 3-1 with a 3.19 ERA in six games (36⅔ innings).
The Toronto offense pounded out seven hits while Berrios walked five and held the friendly Minnesota lineup scoreless. George Springer and Beau Bichette had multi-hit games and Alejandro Kirk had a key two-run double.
Toronto put runners on first and second in the second inning on a Matt Chapman walk and a Dalton Bashaw single. Kirk lined a two-run single to center field to give his team the lead.
After a back-and-forth pitching battle, Toronto scored in the top of the eighth when Springer drew a walk and Bichette singled. A throwing error by center fielder Gleyber Castro allowed Springer to cross the plate.
Minnesota was unable to get any run support from its offense despite a strong outing from starter Bailey Ober, who allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in five innings. At the plate, Matt Walner had a multi-hit game, but it didn’t translate into runs.
