Japanese pitcher Darvish Yu (37) has virtually signed a ‘life contract’ with the San Diego Padres.

On the 10th (hereinafter referred to as Korean time), the MLB.com, the official homepage of Major League 먹튀검증 Baseball, reported that the San Diego Padres had agreed to a six-year, $108 million contract extension with Darvish. San Diego also officially announced an extension contract with Darvish right on the same day. Darvish, who was scheduled to qualify for free agency at the end of this season, won a guaranteed contract until the age of 42 in 2028.

Darvish signed a six-year, $126 million free agent contract with the Chicago Cubs in February 2018. His annual salary this year was $18 million, but this extension contract raised it to $30 million, and while guaranteed until 2028, the salary for the remaining five seasons was reduced. This is an annual salary adjustment taking into account the future salary cap.

MLB.com said, ‘Darvish may end a brilliant career in San Diego,’ and ‘It’s a bit of a gamble for San Diego with a contract that promises a hefty sum for a starter in his late 30s. But they feel comfortable signing Darvish, who has had one of his best seasons while also playing in the second half of his career,’ he explained.

Last year, Darvish pitched 194⅔innings in 30 games and was active with a 16-8 record with a 3.10 ERA and 197 strikeouts. He tied the record for most individual wins and ranked eighth in the National League Cy Young. From the season opener to the postseason, he was treated as an ace as the first starter.

MLB.com said, ‘Darvish called last year one of the most exciting seasons. I’ve fully adjusted to San Diego, and I was open-minded when the team talked about extending my contract last fall. ‘The Darvish extension has always been a priority for San Diego. Darvish also accepted the offer as he wanted to stay with the team,’ he added.

San Diego signed a five-year, $100 million contract with pitcher Joe Musgrove in August of last year. By extending the contract to Darvish this time, he has been able to retain key starters for the long term. Another key starter, Blake Snell, will become a free agent after the season, but he prepared for a power outage by catching Darvish.
