Cho Dae-hyun and Lee Yul-ye (Gangneung High School) were selected for the youth baseball team under the age of 18.
The Korea Baseball Softball Association 메이저놀이터 released a list of youth under the age of 18 on the 18th. A total of 20 players, including nine pitchers, two catchers, five infielders and four outfielders, were selected, while Cho Dae-hyun (3rd grade) and Lee Yul-ye (2nd grade) were named at Gangneung High School.
Their selection was expected to some extent. Gangneung High School coach Jaeho Choi predicted that they would be selected as youth representatives and announced that they would start managing at the ongoing Cheongnyonggi National High School Baseball Championship.
Cho Dae-hyun is the ace of Gangneung High School, called “Jotani” for his pitching and hitting. He is active as an ace pitcher and the fourth batter at Gangneung High School this year. Catcher Lee Yul-ye is receiving the best evaluation in defense, including all third-year catchers. His batting ability is excellent enough to be placed mainly in the fifth batter.
The national team, led by Chungam High School coach Lee Young-bok, will compete in the World Youth Baseball Championship in Taipei and Taichung, Taiwan, from September 1 to 10. The Korean national team is aiming to regain the top spot for the first time in 15 years since the 2008 Edmonton Games in Canada.
