National striker Cho Gyu-seong (25, Jeonbuk), who became a ‘surprise star’ at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, is receiving attention from both prestigious Scottish families.
British media Sky Sports reported on the 11th (Korean time), “Cho Kyu-sung is negotiating with Celtic over a transfer.”
He added, “(Celtic’s rivals) Rangers are also keeping a close eye on Cho Kyu-sung.”
According to reports, Celtic is known to have offered a transfer fee of 3 million pounds (approximately 4.5 billion won) to the Jeonbuk club for the recruitment of Cho Kyu-sung.
Previously, Lee Jae-sung’s team, German Bundesliga Mainz, offered Cho Kyu-sung a transfer fee of 2.5 million pounds, but Celtic offered a higher amount.
Mainz general manager Christian Heidel said through a German kicker that day, “I like Cho Kyu-sung, but if the transfer fee goes up significantly, we will give up our interest.”
Celtic’s Scottish rivals, Rangers, also showed interest in Korean striker Cho Kyu-sung.
Sky Sports explained, “Rangers are also keeping an eye on Cho Kyu-seong. However, unlike Celtic, they have not made an official proposal to Jeonbuk.”
Last season’s K-League 1 top scorer (17 goals), Cho Kyu-seong, became a hero by scoring multiple goals with a header in the second group match against Ghana at the Qatar World Cup.
Afterwards, he started as a starter until the round of 16 against Brazil and played an active role as Bentoho’s main striker.
Cho Kyu-seong, who left a strong impression at the World Cup, immediately received active love calls from foreign clubs.
In addition to Celtic and Mainz, Minnesota United of the American Professional Soccer League (MLS) and Ferencvaros (Hungary) are showing interest in Cho.
However, among them, Celtic is the most active in recruiting Cho Kyu-sung.
Cho Kyu-seong has a three-year contract with Jeonbuk until 2025. Jeonbuk is basically in a position not to hold on to the player 안전놀이터 who is trying to transfer, but as it is Cho Kyu-sung’s first overseas expansion, he is cautious.
