“Representing your country is every baseball player’s dream. Everyone wants to wear the Korean flag at least once.”
KT Wiz’s Park Young-hyun received good news 안전놀이터 before the game against the Kiwoom Heroes in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on September 9. He was named to the Korean National Baseball Team for the Hangzhou Asian Games in September.
Park is 1-2 with a 2.35 ERA in 27 games (30⅔ innings pitched), 10 holds and one save this season. On Aug. 8 against Lotte, he pitched the 12th inning to preserve a one-run lead and earn his first career save.
“I heard people around me saying, ‘I think you can make it, just work a little harder,'” Park said. “I had a feeling that I could be selected because I was doing well this year, but now that it’s confirmed, I feel more at ease,” he said of his selection to the national team. “The national team is every baseball player’s dream. Every baseball player wants to wear the flag at least once. Just to have my name in such an honorable place makes me proud and proud of myself.”
Park Young-hyun, who was selected for the youth national team in high school, said, “In high school, I didn’t get to play because the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. This is actually my first time playing for the national team.”
Along with Young-hyun, KT’s Kang Baek-ho was selected for the Asian Games. However, Kang Baek-ho was removed from the first team roster due to a cold. “I just told (Kang) to take care of himself, and I said, ‘Let’s go together and do well. He also told me that (Choi) Jimin was on the roster and (Kim) Joo Won-hyung was my older brother who played baseball with him. I told them that it’s an important tournament, so let’s go and do well, and let’s win no matter what.”
The tournament is still about three months away. “I think I need to make sure I take care of my body properly now,” Park said. I think I’ll be out of shape because the tournament will be held near the end of the season. Summer is also coming, so I need to take good care of my physical condition,” he said, emphasizing the importance of staying in good shape until the Asian Games.
